How To Change A Booking On Hostelworld

Travel plans are often fluid, whether it’s a weekend getaway or long backpacking trip.

Luckily, Hostelworld.com understands this, especially since travelers who stay in hostels are usually on more flexible schedules than those who stick to hotels.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to modify an existing Hostelworld reservation.

We’ll cover which bookings can be changed, then go through how to change your booking’s dates, guest name, card details and arrival time.

First, Understand Which Bookings You’re Allowed To Change

The type of booking you make determines how much flexibility you’ll have to change your dates afterwards.

  • Free Cancellation Bookings: Dates can be changed once

  • Standard Flexible Bookings: Dates can be changed multiple times

  • Non-Refundable Bookings: Dates can be changed sometimes, but you will need to contact Hostelworld or your host.

How To Edit/Change Your Booking Dates Or Bed/Room

First, log in to your Hostelworld account. Next, click the Account icon in the upper-right corner, then click “Bookings” from the drop-down menu.

Now click the booking you want to change. It will be displayed under All Bookings and Future Bookings.

Next, click “Change Booking” on the booking page.

Use the drop-down calendar to shorten, extend or shift the dates of your existing reservation.

After changing the dates of your reservation, scroll down and re-select your bed/room.

If your dates and bed are available, click “Book Now”.

If you owe more after making the change, you’ll pay the difference on the following page. If you’re owed after the change, you’ll be credited the difference as a voucher, which is applicable towards future bookings.

You’ll receive a Booking Confirmation email showing the change, with a unique booking reference number.

How To Change The Guest Name On Your Booking

You must contact your host to change the guest name of your booking. Hostelworld sends your host contact information in the Booking Confirmation email and in your account, under the “Property Details” section.

Important To Know:

  • Group bookings are only accepted if the person who made the booking is present. Hostelworld only allows one guest name per group booking.

  • You must change the primary guest name if you transfer your booking to someone else, or the property may reject that guest at check-in.

How To Change Your Credit Card Details For Your Booking

Your booking deposit is the only payment that must be paid via card. The remainder of your booking total is due at check-in, in the host’s local currency. If your host accepts card, you can pay using the card used on Hostelworld, or a different one. To see which forms of payment a host accepts, click “View House Rules” under the Property Description section of the listing.

How To Change Your Arrival Time

As with hotels, hostels set their own check-in and checkout hours. This information is provided in your Booking Confirmation email, as well as below the “Hostel Conditions” section within your account.

Most hostels prefer you notify them of arrival time at least a day prior to check-in, especially if you plan to arrive very early (before 8 am) or late (after 8 pm).
